Silver’s Public Art – Shed – By Metz & Chew

When Jacqueline Metz and Nancy Chew were asked to create something dynamic and significant for Silver, in the heart of Metrotown, they immediatly shifted towards finding something that would celebrate the unique community, culture and heritage of Burnaby – and to be part of it’s future. The artwork in the plaza was to play off the inherent qualities of the site, the urban landscape and sophisticated architecture.

The artwork is called Shed. It is an artwork informed by the natural history of the area. Deer used to inhabit Burnaby and the artistic duo found photographs of deer next to railroad tracks, at camps, in the wilderness in Burnaby – it’s not a wonder there’s a Deer Lake.

Metz & Chew were captured by the elegant and elemental form of the deer antler, an object that implies entire landscape yet also conveys an intimacy. Shed will be cast in aluminum, the appearance smooth and lustrous, a subtle abstraction of the natural antler. It is an artwork that is conceptual and abstract yet uniquely grounded in place. It is about Burnaby – a past, almost forgotten, Burnaby and a new lustrous one.

PST Transition Rules for Property

With the new tax laws in place, we thought it’d be a good time to share the PST Transition Rules.

How will the temporary transition tax work?

Where the tax is payable on or after April 1st, 2013 and before April 1st, 2015, the provincial government will, in certain circumstances, collect a temporary transitional tax of 2% that will apply on the purchase price of a new home where:

HST does not apply to the sale (that is, where GST applies)
The construction of the new housing is 1% or more complete as of April 1st, 2013
Ownership or possession of the new housing transfers, or a deemed sale of the new housing occurs before April 1st, 2015

After April 1st, 2015 only 5% GST applies.

Easter Egg Hunt Anyone?

You read correctly. We have hidden a number of delicious chocolate eggs throughout the Sales Centre and when we open our doors on Saturday, feel free to keep your eye open for those delicious chocolate treats. The Easter Bunny has stashed tons of chocolate easter eggs throughout the sales arena and display home, and of course, if you find one or ten, they are yours to enjoy.

And, it looks like the Easter Bunny will be visiting a few other places with a collection of chocolate eggs.

Thursday, March 28th (TONIGHT) at 6:30pm: Easter Eggcitement from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Willingdon Community Centre. Join the Easter bunny for seasonal crafts, games and a mini egg hunt! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Saturday, March 30th at 12:30pm: Bunny Hop Skate from 12:30pm to 3:00pm at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre. Let’s get hopping for the Easter season. The Easter Bunny is coming. This event features ice skating, face painting, colourful crafts and hoppin’ games.

Sunday, March 31st at 12:00pm: Easter Egg Hunt at the CG Brown Memorial Pool between 12:00pm and 1:30pm. The Easter Bunny is stashing treats at the pool.

Silver Construction Update

We are well underway with Construction at Silver. We are just finishing slab on grade and level 4 parking verticals have begun. It’s been very exciting to see the activity on the site, and we wanted to share with you some images we’ve taken in the last month.
